Due to the highly sensitive nature of the training facility recruitment had to be done through direct contacts or through known and trusted channels. Other skills taught at the camp included demolition, map reading, and Morse Code. The training covered both the physical and psychological aspects of their work. New recruits initially completed ten weeks of training in all aspects of intelligence and espionage. After this, some would go on to further, more specialist training while others were ready for their first mission. Trainees learned how to install a wireless antenna . Deciphering and encrypting skills were learned. Also a variety of special techniques, particularly silent killing without and with any type of weapons. Demolition to environmental assimilation. Deadly defensive skills we taught by the best instructor William Fairbairn who was recruited by British intelligence known as Dangerous Dan. Close combat instructor Eric Sykes trained hundreds of American, Canadian and British commandos plus agents for the SOE and OSS. His close combat, pistol shooting and knife-fighting techniques were taught to "Get down in the gutter, and win at all costs ... No playing fair kill or be killed ". The training programs were meant to provide the candidates with stresses and demands that would simulate the environment where the trainees were to be sent; that is, to train only the best, and eliminate those who would be unable to complete the task ahead.
